  • IMA opened in 2015 and our child has attended since then. First, in the Nesting Room and now in the Children's House. His teacher, Ms. Charlene (who has recently moved), was nurturing and kind. I was very anxious to leave my then 2.5 yr old child in someone else's care. Ms. Charlene picked up on my concerns and made sure to inform me on daily activities, sometimes even sending me messages after settling in for the morning. Every day no matter what, she took the time for my child and from what I could see, the other children as well. From getting dressed, to buttoning, zipping, and tying knots, to working on independent work and concentration, to preparing a plate, cleaning up, and respecting other's work, climbing and gaining confidence, Ms. Charlene and her assistant teacher Ms. Jearica, did a fantastic job! We miss them very much. Ms. Beth and Ms. Christina taught my child since May 2017. In December 2017, Ms. Christina moved and my child was very sad about it. Ms. Alysyn joined the classroom and the change over couldn't have been smoother. All teachers were sensitive to the children losing a teacher and gaining one in the same month. Since May my child has learned about geography, number rods, alphabet, writing simple words, names, and recognizing rocks, flowers, learned a few words in Chinese, Spanish, and Korean, has improved in concentration, confidence, and independence. We are very proud of the accomplishments. A word about Montessori: the children are given the choice what work they would like to do each day. Of course, they will be encouraged and helped, but in the end each child can pick what they would like to do. The work space is defined, cleaned up when they're done, and individual work is encouraged; however, I know for a fact that even the children become teachers and that's why there are older and younger children mixed together. The kids have a lot of fun, but the work environment is primarily quiet. Soothing music plays in the background and the lights are usually pretty dim. Yes, the room is different than what one is normally used to, but it helps that the children don't get overstimulated. If you tour this school and you think it is too quiet, please know that the child is calm and collected because he or she is concentrating and working on his or her work! They are doing their job. They are very proud of doing their job. They get just as much playtime that is anything but quiet. They have fun and the teachers are kind and caring. You will not regret spending the money each month and let's face it: current tuition for the Children's House is $580 a month. If there are 20 school days in a month and your child goes there for a minimum of 6 hours a day, you will spend less than $5 an hour! I am quite certain you can't find a babysitter for that rate AND a babysitter (most likely a teenager) will almost guaranteed Snapchat while your kid watches TV... that just as a side note. At IMA your child will find friends and have a fantastic day and you can be sure that he or she is in good hands.
